Why Your New Colours mean Harmony

I’VE NOTICED a pattern with colour clients recently. As a personal stylist in the UK specialising in colour analysis, what drew me to colour in the first place was the ability of the ‘right’ colours  - which are different for each of us - to increase confidence and a feeling of being more ‘you’. How does colour do this? Well, the right colour season for you, whether that is the bright and clear colours of Spring, the pretty muted colours of Summer, the dusty and deep colours of Autumn, or the intense hues of Winter, will boost your complexion, the glow of your skin, will help create that feeling of being on holiday or looking healthier, but will also harmonise with your features and even help emphasise them, so that you create a feeling of coherence with your natural colouring and appearance.

It’s based on a deep ability of our brains to decipher which colours go with others - a natural ‘harmony checker’ if you like - and we recognise on a subconscious level which hues are harmonious and which are a little jarring.

And clients have started to notice this after their analysis. The main reason a lot of people come to see me is that they’re a bit stuck on what to wear or how to express themselves through their clothes - they’ve lost their sense of self a little bit, through work or parenthood or trauma - lost that joy of opening their wardrobe and seeing a reflexion of themselves in front of them - but what they often find after colour analysis, especially when they’re trying out their new colour palette and are maybe a bit trepidatious about it - is others' reaction to them.

So, when other people’s ‘harmony checker’ sees them in their new colours, the brain isn’t always exactly sure why someone looks better and ‘right’, but what they’re detecting is that subconscious understanding that these colours go with this person’s features and their own natural colouring - that they’re fully coherent with themselves and their personality (as personality and colour are also linked).

This means that often others will just notice a client looks healthy, more radiant or more confident, rather than notice that they’re wearing a specific colour or colour palette. This in itself can be a great confidence boost for those who have recently had their colours done, and reinforce that sense of being comfortable in their own skin (and colours too!).

COLOURFULLY,

Jenny
