Why Colour is Magical and Twinkly
I WALKED past a mother and toddler daughter in the street the other day. The mother was saying ‘…trees, and magical twinkly lights.’ And the little girl said, in the sweetest possible way, ‘I like magical twinkly lights, mummy.’ That’s all I caught.
And it got me thinking. Most of us DO like magical twinkly lights: pretty much who wouldn’t? But we often forget how important it is to surround ourselves with joyful things. Which are often quite simple adornments. Or we’re quite good at it in our houses, maybe, where we often put in effort, but less good at it on ourselves. At least I find this is true as we grow older and we are all too good at putting aside the obviously joyful as life gets more serious or difficult.

This is one of the aspects I love about helping to reintroduce colour into people’s lives via colour analysis. Yes, it’s about finding out what colour season you are, and which colours will suit you the most, but at core, it’s about introducing a bit more JOY into your life and your wardrobe.
I don’t think this is overly whimsical or silly or basic. I think this is the stuff of life and the amazing visual treats that we can find in this world. Colour, at least the right colour for that person, elicits joy and a pretty hefty psychological boost to mood and energy, and I think we underestimate the usefulness and importance of that in modern life.
But since colour is there just waiting to be used in this way, and since learning your colour season also involves learning which metallics - and therefore which jewellery, shiny belts, and accessories - work best for your skin-tone, in addition to brighter colours and the best neutrals for you, we can all enjoy pretty simply the dressing equivalent of ‘magical twinkly lights’.
Colourfully,
